Honors Apologia Physical Science (6-8th grade) Deposit

$70.00

Thursdays 12:00-1:20

This course will discuss atomic structure, periodic table, chemical bonds, reactions and energy, motion, forces, energy, waves and sound, light, electricity and magnetism, and much more about our Earth’s atmosphere. It is designed to be the science course a student has before biology. This course was created to give students an understanding of the basic world that surrounds them each day of their lives and the forces in creation so that they can appreciate the real-world relevance of scientific inquiry and the beauty of God’s creation. Throughout the year your student will conduct controlled experiments where they observe a problem, ask a question, formulate a testable hypothesis, and conduct the experiment to analyze the data to see if their results support their hypothesis. This course, with the coverage of Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science, will help students gain a solid foundation to confidently complete high school level courses ahead.

Journal: We will utilize the accompanied journal that will take them through the process of note taking skills through colorful prompts and prepare them for the study skills needed to transition to high school.  The notebook will also deepen their understanding of the textbook as they explore what God’s word has to say about the workings of His creation.

Tests: Using a combination of open and closed book tests, students will improve their skill of test-taking, thus preparing them for high school.  Additional assessments will be utilized along with tests to evaluate mastery.

Class format: Reading and Journal work will be required outside of class about 4 hours a week.  Class time will be used for highlighting and discussion of key ideas, and group experiments that walk through the scientific method.

*This is an honors course and has course pre-requisites. If new to Mud Creek (please see honors course requirements outlined in procedures and if your student meets the class pre-requisites and honors requirements, contact jana@mudcreekstudio.com for class approval to register).
